The Consulates

Last Sunday, I went for a medical as per employment requirement. It was in Knowledge Village which cost 750 AED. Also, I went to Singapore Consulate in Dubai. Initially, I asked the driver to take me to Singapore Embassy but he corrected me and said that it was actually Singapore Consulate. Anyway, the purpose was to file renunciation of my residency in Singapore. It was actually a big decision but I thought that I should move fast and the money from CPF will be helpful to me. I have a plan for my family and the CPF money will somehow be useful to circulate the money and to improve our lives. From Ibn Batuta to the consulate, the fare was about 55 AED and the process went smoothly. I have surrendered my SG identification card and was asked to write a letter that I am officialy renouncing my residency. It was a big decision especially this time that many Filipinos are wanting/applying for such status in Singapore and the results weren't that good. But I have to move on, forget the past and look forward. Singapore thought me a lot of things and there, I found my second family that brought me closer to Him. I would definitely come back to Singapore but only as a tourist and to visit some dear friends.
On Tuesday, I went to Etisalat Metro Station and took a cab. I asked the driver to take me to Philippine Embassy and again, I was corrected and insisted it was the Philippine consulate. Alright, I was really confused so I checked differencebetween.net and found out the Consulate is like a junior embassy where the embassy is located in the capital of the country, where for UAE, it's in Abu Dhabi. Actually my first attempt to enter the consulate was a failure as I was wearing short which is not allowed so I returned the next day. There I processed SPA for my mother to be my attorney in fact to process my documents in DFA Manila. The fee was 100 AED (more than 1k PHP) which is absolutely insane! When I processed the same document last month in Manila, it was only 150 PHP. Anyway, maybe that's the rule so I have to accept. But what really irritated me was that it will take 1 week to get the document. It was only an hour in Manila! My goodness, the process was very slow, maybe one reason why the country's progression is also in the slow pace. Well again, I needed to accept that policy, so I just went back to hotel and rest.

Preface

On my first day here in Dubai, I woke up so early. It was about 7AM here (11AM SGT), I thought that I need more adjustment when it comes to my body clock. I unpacked some of my things, configured the internet and familiarized myself by checking the nearest supermarket, coffee shop, pizza parlor and even gym and spa. I asked the receptionist what is the nearest mall and she pointed me to Ibn Battuta Mall. Eventually, my childhood friend Ces and her husband invited me for a night out.
So I decided to stroll on my own first in the mall and it was a really huge shopping mall. One thing I noticed was that the mall doesn't have 2nd floor (except for the Fitness First branch). The entire facility and stalls were situated on the 1st floor, so it was a long walk as I believe the mall was subdivided with different cultures such as China, India, Persia, etc. I first went to a money changer then I found this movie house (Grand Cinema) on which I bought a 3D ticket for 'Wrath of the Titans'. It was also a cool thing that they are giving free 3D glasses so I kept mine as a small souvenir. While killing some time, I decided to explore the mall and take a snack & coffee in Starbucks.
At past 6PM, Ces & his husband arrived and they took their dinner then we headed out to Dubai Mall / Burk Khalifa. There I saw the world's tallest building and inside the mall, I bought my local sim card from Etisalat for 200 AED with 1GB data bundle. I also saw the world's biggest aquarium and world's biggest dancing fountain. Did you remember that Whitney Houston tribute with a music and fountain?! It was the same fountain and that night a simple cultural music was playing in sych with the dance movement of th water. The first day isn't that bad, honestly I enjoyed it but became very sleepy at around 8PM on which 12PM in SGT on which my body clock was reading. I believe this is a start, a beginning, a preface of upcoming good events here in Dubai. Yeah, life isn't about good times but I'm ready with the challenges as I believe He is here with me, guiding me as always.

Restart

It was a very long journey going to Dubai. At first, it was a 3 and a half hour plane ride from Singapore to Sri Lanka for a stopover of eight hours and for an unknown reason, the Emirates flight that will bring me to Dubai was delayed for six hours and it was very frustrating. But still, I was able to go with the flow and accept that instance. As I arrived in Dubai Internation Airport, I thought the entry would be easy as I have the needed document to enter. When I was talking to the immigration, I was informed that the document I was bringing needed to be stamped first and that I should make eye scanning. So I did what I was told to do and voila, I was screaming on my mind "Welcome to Dubai, Carlo!".
When I got out of the airport, I didn't know where the taxi stand was and thankfully, a Pinoy staff assisted me. I directly headed to ziQoo hotel apartment as my employer provided an accomodation for a month. Again, I saw another Pinoy and she was arranging all my documents for my stay in the hotel. I think there are more than 10 Pinoy staffs here and it made me feel comfortable and easy. My crib for one month isn't bad at all, it is fully furnished and I have all the things that I need, from entertainment to cooking.

Honestly, all things came in a rush. I know I have left some errands in Singapore and I feel very sad about it. I've been through a lot for the past few months and most of them were financial related. I just thought giving so much kindness to others can give a wrong impression that may result to be abused and at the end, sometimes I need to suffer. Well it was a lesson learned for me so I am considering this new journey as a restart of all things and to pursue my dreams and goals in my life. For me, it's a new beginning and I'm really praying that this time, everything will be smooth and will run according to my plan and His will.
